Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria, and is situated in scenic surroundings by the Balkan mountains. In addition to all the historical sights you can visit, you can also take a hike or bike ride to the scenic Boyana waterfall, or Cherni Vrah, the highest peak on the nearby Vitosha mountain. From this top you get a fantastic view of the city. There are several ways up, and there is also a bus service for parts of the way. At the top you can buy delicious food and drink and it is open all year round.
