Where is it hot in January?

A new year brings new opportunities! Why not start the first month of the year with a break in the sun further south? Despite January being the coldest month of the year, a number of our destinations still have daytime temperatures in the 20s and long days with lots of sun. So, what are you waiting for? Get on a plane and enjoy a new, totally different January!

Gran Canaria

Start the new year afresh on Gran Canaria. Its pleasant winter climate means you can avoid the cold at home. Expect temperatures between 20° C and 15° C with a little over 11 hours of daylight to enjoy. Not bad when the days feel little better than the long nights at home.

Spend your time exploring the volcanic landscape that’s a major feature of the island or find a new beach to relax on while reflecting and recharging your batteries for the new year.

Tenerife is a fantastic destination for anyone who wants to start the year with relaxation and the beauty of nature. The balmy winter with temperatures between 22° C and 15° C means lots of time to enjoy the beaches such as El Médano, and to try water sports such as surfing.

Don’t forget the historic La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its fascinating ancient buildings. Take a boat trip to see dolphins and whales in their natural habitat. Tenerife in January gives you the ideal start to the year, with a mix of activities and relaxation.

Marrakesh

Marrakesh is a fascinating destination for starting the new year with a cultural and sensory experience. Temperatures range from 19° C to 6° C, providing the perfect backdrop for exploring the historic monuments such as the royal palace and Saadian tombs.

Take your time exploring the town’s art and craft shops, enjoy authentic Moroccan tea and food at a traditional café. Marrakesh in January will give you a deeper understanding of the rich history and cultural legacy of the town.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a wonderful destination to start the new year. The mild winter temperatures of between 20° C and 13° C give you plenty of opportunities to explore the many natural wonders of the island.

Head for Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes, a volcanic cave or enjoy the peace and quiet of beaches such as Papagayo. Lanzarote in January gives you a relaxing start to the year with its majestic landscape and unique sights.

Alicante

Alicante is a great place to go in January if you want to start the new year with a little culture. The mild temperatures of between 17° C and 7° C provide a fantastic opportunity to explore the museums, including the MARQ archaeological museum, a recent winner of the European Museum of the Year award.

Take a gentle stroll along the excellent beaches around the town, such as San Juan. January is also the season for fish. So take the opportunity to enjoy local seafood dishes at the huge range of restaurants found in the town.
