Travel to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland

Why go?

Discover magical arctic adventures in one of the most exciting winter destinations – 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Join one of the many guided activities or pick up a rental car and explore the area on your own.

Things to do and see

Abisko – the number one location for northern lights

The area surrounding Kiruna is very good for seeing the northern lights, but Abisko has gained attention in the recent years for being one of the best places in the world for viewing this phenomenon. The area surrounding Abisko has the lowest amount of precipitaton in Sweden, and combined with its geographical location this results in a clear sky making the probability for seeing the northern lights very high. Check out the STF Aurora Sky Station where you’ll ride a cable car up to top of mount Nuolja where you’ll get breathtaking views under the night sky.

The world famous ICEHOTEL

Visit the original ICEHOTEL in the little village of Jukkasjärvi outside Kiruna. ICEHOTEL is both an art exhibition and hotel made of natural ice and snow from one of Europe’s last wild rivers. The walls, floors and ceilings are the canvases of designers from all creative disciplines. The artists and artwork vary each year, with each rendition of the hotel presenting an ephemeral collection of art. This is undeniably a must-see when you visit Kiruna. The ICEHOTEL opens in December and closes in the beginning of May.

Winter adventures: Go fast or go slow – arctic style

Let huskies take you across the untouched wilderness, go skiing cross-country and downhill, explore the world’s biggest iron ore mine 540 meters below the ground, experience Sami culture and reindeer sledding, join safaris or just chill out in front of the camp fire under the stars. Everything is easily accessible from the town of Kiruna and nearby locations.
