Hurghada is idyllically situated by the Red Sea, surrounded by both desert and coral reefs. The city is a fantastic spot for those seeking a vacation filled with sun, beaches, water activities, and countless new experiences. Here are our top tips for activities, sights, and things to do in Hurghada.

Good to know!

  • A visa is required to enter Egypt. For most nationalities, this can be purchased directly at the airport for 25 USD. You can check which countries this applies to here. Additionally, your passport must be valid for more than 6 months after your return.
  • When you're at the hotel, water parks, or large stores in the city center, you can usually pay by card. However, cash is often the only accepted payment method at cafés or bazaars.
  • There are strict regulations on bringing drones and professional camera equipment into the country. If this applies to you, make sure you look up the rules before you go.

Water activities

Hurghada is renowned as one of the world’s top places for snorkeling, diving, and other water activities. The Red Sea boasts impressive marine life, with coral reefs that can take even the most experienced diver’s breath away. For beginners, there are plenty of dive centers offering training and guided underwater tours.

Discover the underwater world of the Red Sea

One of the most popular diving sites is Sha’ab El Erg, also known as the "Dolphin House," where you have a high chance of seeing dolphins up close. The Giftun Islands, a short boat trip from Hurghada, are another must-visit.

These small islands offer white sandy beaches and turquoise waters— a perfect day trip for snorkelers to swim among colorful fish and corals in crystal-clear water.

If you wish to see manta rays, sharks, or other marine species, just ask the captain, and you'll be taken to the right spot!

Diving with underwater scooters

If you want to explore the Red Sea without diving, an underwater scooter can be a great alternative. It lets you move freely underwater, experiencing the coral reefs up close without needing a diving certificate — a thrilling activity that offers a unique way to explore the sea.

Family fun at Aqua Park

Hurghada also has much to offer for families. The city has several popular water parks, like Jungle Aqua Park and Makadi Water World, among the largest in the region. With pools, water slides, and activities for all ages, it’s the perfect place for a family day filled with laughter and fun. Many hotels also offer access to smaller water parks and activities, so there’s something for everyone in your group.

Enjoy a day of water fun and games for the whole family.

Land activities

Long days at the beach or in the water might be at the top of people’s lists for things to do in Hurghada, but if you want a day off from salty water and sun-soaked skin, we recommend these above-water activities.

Uncover the desert’s secrets on a desert safari

A desert safari offers a taste of Egypt’s impressive landscape. Why not start the journey with a quad bike ride through the sand dunes for an unforgettable adrenaline rush? Or try our favorite—ride a camel or take a jeep to a Bedouin village for a glimpse into traditional Egyptian life. End the safari with a memorable dinner under the stars.

The Grand Aquarium: an underwater world on land

For a look at marine life without getting in the water, Hurghada Grand Aquarium is an exciting place to visit. This modern aquarium features a variety of marine species, including sharks and sea turtles, and an underwater tunnel that gives you the feeling of walking right through the Red Sea. Suitable for all ages, the aquarium is a great family activity, especially if you need a break from the sun and sand.
