Things to do in Fuerteventura
The Ugly Duckling
Under the supervision of chef Henrik Sondergaard, The Ugly Duckling is a first-class restaurant serving Scandinavian cuisine, including a daily Danish classic. It’s smart, but small and homely with room for just 24 guests. Find it on Calle Isla de Lobos in Corralejo.
La Vaca Azul
There are few better ways to escape the hustle and bustle of busy towns than by disappearing off to a sleepy little fisherman’s village like El Cotillo for some peace and quiet. At the old harbour you’ll find restaurant La Vaca Azul where you can tuck into some fine Spanish cuisine while looking out over the sea.
Casa Marcos in Villaverde is a traditional Spanish restaurant that sits on top of a hill and has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The building itself is typically rustic with a wealth of small rooms leading off each other, decorated with farm instruments and objet d’arts. If the weather is fine (and chances are it will be!), head for the large terrace to dine al fresco.
At Flicks Bar at the Atlantico centre in Corralejo you’ll find the latest tracks being blared from the speakers. For those who think they can do better than Taylor Swift there’s also karaoke. Drinks are reasonably priced, the bar is open until 3am and, conveniently, there’s a taxi rank right outside.
Rock Island Bar
The Rock Island Bar in Corralejo is a great little venue with a brilliant atmosphere just off the main street. Get there before 9.30pm for a seat to make the most of the acoustic set that is on every night featuring some top class musicians.
The Rock Café in Corralejo is a cracking live music venue with well priced drinks and basic but delicious comfort food including fajitas, ribs, stacked burgers and steaks. Be warned it tends to be noisier and more crammed than a Metallica mosh pit but there’s always a great atmosphere.
Pieros Music Café
For great night out head to Caleta de Fuste and make your way to Pieros Music Café where they have live music and karaoke every night. You can also catch the best of British sport on the big-screen TVs.
Corralejo is the main tourist area with a market every Tuesday and Friday morning. On Sunday mornings an artesian craft market is held in the Campanario Meeting Centre where you can shop for home-grown products while local Canarian music plays in the background.
Puerto del Rosario
Puerto del Rosario is the island’s capital and houses a large shopping centre Rotanda. Puerto del Rosario Bus Station holds a Biosfera Farmers Market on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 9am until early afternoon.
Cabildo de Fuerteventura
The main concert venue in Fuerteventura is in Puerto del Rosario, and is home to a variety of gigs as well as political rallies and charity balls. Numerous local and international artists have run around the stage here.
Flagbeach Water Centre
Learn to windsurf at one of the many local surfing schools, like the Flagbeach Water Centre. Snorkelling, kite surfing and many other spoting activities are available throughout most of the island.
