These guidelines for personal security apply to the website Norwegian.no and Norwegian’s other distribution channels.
Gathering and use of personal information
We only collect the personal information you provide which is necessary to carry out our contractual obligations to you, in accordance with legal requirements. We may use this information for our commercial purposes.
Your personal information will only be used for other reasons or be provided to third parties, with your consent or when it is necessary for us to be able to carry out our obligations to you. For instance, we may contract with a service provider to perform technical, administrative, marketing, or other services on our behalf and share your information with that service provider.
We may provide your information to Norwegian's representative offices, associated companies or agents, both in Norway and abroad.
Your personal information may be disclosed when it is legally required or when it is necessary to protect the rights or safety of Norwegian as a company, its employees, customers or the general public. In such events the third party will only have access to the specific information they require.
Your information may also be disclosed as part of a purchase, transfer or sale of services or assets (e.g., in the event that substantially all of our assets are acquired by another party, customer information may be one of the transferred assets).
Norwegian gathers specific information about the hard- and software you use. This information is used for our operations, to maintain the quality of our service and to provide general statistics concerning the use of Norwegian.com.
Norwegian also gathers information about which pages you visit at Norwegian.com This data about page visits is identified only through a unique ID number, and is not connected to other personal information unless consent is given.
If you willingly register a personal profile on Norwegian.no and sign up for a newsletter, you will be able to see, edit and remove any personal information saved in "Your profile". You will be asked to provide a username and password before you have access to this information. If you send us an email, sign up for our newsletter or request information we will retain your email address and use it to respond to your inquiry. We may also use your email address to provide you with upcoming events, packages and other information about Norwegian.
You have the right to see what personal information we hold about you. You can apply to see this information by contacting us in the manner described below. You can gain access to the personal information stored in “your profile” in the manner described above.
You have the right to demand that Norwegian remove your personal information once it is no longer necessary for Norwegian to keep, except where Norwegian is legally obliged to keep this information. Norwegian will also remove unnecessary personal information on its own initiative, when it is no longer required.
A request for the removal of personal information can be made by contacting us in the manner described below.
Safety of your personal information
Norwegian uses several security technologies to protect personal information against unauthorised access, use or transmission. For example we save the personal information you provide on a server with limited access in security-monitored locations. When we transfer sensitive information (such as credit card numbers) on the internet, we protect this using encryption, including the SSL protocol (Secure Socket Layer).
To ensure that other parties do not gain access to your personal information, anyone who contacts Norwegian with questions concerning booked journeys or requesting similar information must provide a reference code and the credit card with which the booking was made.
When someone visits one of our web sites, a cookie may be placed on your computer (if the browser accepts cookies), or is read if you have visited one of our sites previously.
We also collect usage data from email communication links. It is collected in aggregate form and never linked with any personal information.
Web beacons, also known as clear gif technology or action tags, may be used to assist in delivering the cookie on one of our web sites. This technology tells us how many visitors clicked on key elements (such as links or graphics) on a Norwegian web page. We do not use this technology to access any personally identifiable information. It is a tool we use to compile aggregated statistics about web site usage. We may share aggregated site statistics with partner companies but we do not allow third parties to place clear gifs on our sites.
If you choose to not have your browser accept cookies from the Norwegian web sites, you will be able to view the text on the screens, however you will not experience a personalized visit nor will you be able to subscribe to the service offerings on the site.
Transportation Security Administration Secure Flight Notice
The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires you to provide your full name, date of birth and gender for the purpose of watch list screening under the authority of 49 U.S.C. section 114, the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 and 49 C.F.R. parts 1540 and 1560 for all commercial air travel within, into or out of the United States which is booked on or after August 15, 2009. You may also provide your Redress Number, if available. If you book commercial air travel within, into or out of the United States we will request this information from you and forward it to the TSA as required by law. Failure to provide your full name, date of birth, and gender may result in denial of transport or denial of authority to enter the boarding area. TSA may share information you provide with law enforcement or intelligence agencies or others under its published system of records notice. Effective Date and Changes
This policy is effective 8 november 2012 and supercedes all prior policies. We post our most current policy on the websites. If we make material changes we will post a revised policy with a new effective date.
