Penedes

This scenic wine-making region, with its rolling hills, sheltered valleys and crumbling churches, is right on Barcelona’s doorstep. While very decent table wines are produced here, the region is famous for Catalonia’s version of Champagne – Cava – made using exactly the same methods as across the border (but miles cheaper!). Guided tasting tours are becoming popular, although you can also visit many wineries independently via train. The journey from Renfe rail station takes about one hour.

Penedes.
