Dating from the sixteenth century, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese was rebuilt after the Great Fire of London and remains a popular drinking haunt today. Set back off the main street in a narrow alleyway; keep an eye out for the lantern bearing its name so as not to walk straight by. A labyrinth of dark, cosy rooms, you may feel as if you’ve slipped back in time to when Charles Dickens used to be a regular here.
