Equipaje especial

Oversized baggage refers to all items other than a suitcase, bag or backpack. Musical instruments or sporting equipment smaller than 90cm x 75cm x 55cm and between 2-20 kg is permitted as normal checked baggage.

Transportation of bicycles, large musical instruments and surfboards must be booked via our Contact Centre at least 48 hours prior to departure. NOTE: As there are limitations regarding the number of bikes and certain large musical instruments that can be carried onboard, we recommend that you make your booking via our Contact Centre. This will enable us to ensure that there will be space for your oversized item.

Reservations for oversized baggage cannot be made by email. All passengers travelling with oversized baggage must be checked-in at least one hour before departure.

You have the option to purchase oversized baggage when travelling with Norwegian. Oversized baggage is charged per person per segment. Excess baggage will be charged for any item that exceeds 20kg. Size and weight
We cannot accept individual baggage units weighing more than 32 kg or less than 2kg. We permit a total baggage allowance of 64 kg per person. The weight limit does apply to electric wheelchairs, musical instruments or animals in the cargo hold. We accept baggage with a total circumference of 300cm where the maximum dimensions are: length 250cm, height 79cm, width 112cm.

Packing oversized baggage
All oversized baggage must be packed in such a way that it can withstand normal baggage handling. This means that the item will withstand the impact of coming into contact with other luggage in the baggage system and when loading/unloading the aircraft. Norwegian is not responsible for any damage to oversized luggage that is not securely packed in a hard case.

Bicycles
If you are travelling with a bicycle that is not packaged in a bike suitcase, you must make a request for the carriage of this item via our Contact Centre at least 48 hours prior to departure.

Norwegian accepts a maximum of 4 bicycles per flight when the bike is not packaged in a bike suitcase**. When packed in a suitcase for bicycles, the limit does not apply and bicycles will be accepted beyond this limit. Payment for the carriage of bicycles must be paid at the airport of the day of travel. This charge will apply regardless how the bicycle is packaged.

For bikes that are not packed in a case, the handles must be turned around, pedals must be taken off, other additional parts must be removed or covered and the tyres must be deflated.

NOTE: Bicycles must not exceed 20kg. Bike bags/boxes must only contain bicycle equipment.

** Flights departing from London-Gatwick (LGW) require that all bicycles are packed in a hard case/box, a bag is not acceptable. Bicycles that are not packaged in a hard case will be rejected. Norwegian does not have hard cases/boxes available for purchase at the airport.

Golf and ski equipment
Golf and ski equipment should be booked online either at the time of booking, via this link after your booking is made or at the airport on the day of travel. Payment for the carriage of such equipment must be made at this time. NOTE: This request cannot be made via our Contact Centre.

Golf and ski equipment must not exceed 15kg. Golf and ski bags must only contain the relevant sporting equipment.

Other sporting equipment
Fishing rods must be packed in suitable hard casing/tube (max 15 kg). Payment for the carriage of such equipment must be made at the airport on the day of travel.

If you are travelling with a surfboard, you must make this request via our Contact Centre at least 48 hours prior to departure. Payment for the carriage of a surfboard must be made at the airport on the day of travel.

Musical Instruments

If you wish to transport a cello in the cabin, you must book an extra seat for the cello by phoning our Contact Centre. The fare available at the time of booking will be charged.

Norwegian only accepts two double basses per flight. If you are travelling with a double bass we recommend that you make your booking via our Contact Centre to ensure that there is enough space for your double bass before you book your flight. You must register your double bass via our Contact Centre at least 48 hours before departure. Payment for the carriage of this item must be made at the airport on the day of travel.

Weapons and ammunition
Norwegian allows the carriage of sporting guns for hunting and competitions, but only on the condition that the bolt (or the stock in the case of rifles) are removed and carried separately from the gun itself. Up to five kilos of ammunition may be transported providing this is packed in the unopened, original packaging. Weapons may only be transported in checked baggage. You must advise check-in personnel if you are travelling with weapons and ammunition. Payment for the carriage of such items must be made at the airport on the day of travel.

Dry Ice
Dry ice may be transported in accordance with the following conditions:

  • The package must not exceed 2.5 kg
  • The package must have ventilation holes
  • The package must be marked “dry ice”
