What is Norwegian`s policy on the carriage of animals?

Answer:

Norwegian accepts live animals (only dogs and cats) for transport in the hold under restricted conditions.

All flights on which live animals are to be transported must be booked and confirmed a minimum of 48 hours in advance of departure by calling our Customer Centre on 815 21 815 press 2 or 00 47 21 49 00 15 press 2.

Reservations can not be made on internet or by e-mail.

Norwegian is not responsible for verifying that a pet has the necessary documentation, including vaccination documents, prior to travel through, to or from any country. It is the responsibility of the person who has paid for the pet’s transportation to pay any fines, costs or any other expenses incurred as a result of insufficient documentation being provided.

Transport of live animals is limited to two animals per flight and the animals may only be loaded on board in separate IATA-approved cat or dog baskets/kennels; steel cages are not accepted on board.

The maximum total weight is 40 kg. and maximum dimensions of 101x81x89 cm.

Extremely cold weather can cause periodic restrictions on live animal transport to/from the north of Norway.

Small animals (cats and dogs) may also be carried in the cabin (PETC) under special restrictions, and the same rule applies here as to the maximum limit on the number of live animals carried on board a flight in separate IATA-approved cat or dog baskets.

The maximum weight of dog/cat baskets is 8kg gross with maximum dimensions of 43x31x20cm.

Live animals are not permitted for transport in either the hold or cabin on flights to or from the UK, Morocco, Russia, Bulgaria,Serbia, Turkey, Kosovo and United Arab Emirates . Passengers must arrange the use of an appropriate kennel or basket, or a so-called pet travel bag. The latter must be of a resilient material and be fully waterproof and completely clean in addition. The container must be large enough to allow the animal to stand up, turn round and lie in a natural position. We recommend passengers use a “sherpa bag", which can be purchased in most pet shops.

Passengers with live animals must check in at the latest one hour before departure. Passengers must also pay their animal’s transport costs at the airport on the day of departure.
