Fleet

Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA currently operates 45 single-aisle jet aircraft. The company has opted to modernize the fleet with state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft. A total of 70 such aircraft will be delivered to the company from 2008 to 2014. The Boeing 737-800 is among the most environmentally friendly aircraft available, reducing per seat CO2 emissions by 23 % to the 737-300 and by as much as 33 % to the MD80. The new aircraft also improve operational reliability and on-time performance which are important considerations for our customers, while at the same time reducing maintenance and other technical costs.

Boeing 737-800
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft serve all routes in Norwegian’s network, but are typically allocated to high-density routes and long routes to North Africa, The Canary Islands and Dubai due to the longer range and higher efficiency of the aircraft.

The Boeing 737-800 is a short to medium haul single-aisle aircraft which entered service in 1998 and is still in production. Norwegian had introduced 12 737-800s to the fleet by May 2009 with 46 more to follow over the next five years. The existing fleet have a 189 seat configuration. Future deliveries will feature 186 seats to increase passenger legroom as well as new Recaro seats which will improve passenger legroom even further. The 13 aircraft delivered are all equipped with CFM 56-7B26 engines, of which five have installed tech-insert technology that reduces fuel consumption. All future deliveries will have engines with tech-insert technology installed. Maximum take-off weight (MTOW) is 79.0 tons, maximum range with full load is approximately 2,400 nautical miles. All Boeing 737-800 have performance enhancing winglets installed.

Boeing 737-300
The Boeing 737-300 aircraft serve most of Norwegian’s network with the exception of flights to North Africa, The Canary Islands, Dubai and domestic flights in Sweden.

The Boeing 737-300 is a short to medium haul single-aisle aircraft which entered service in 1984 and went out of production in 1999. Norwegian has 28 aircraft of the type. The majority of the -300 fleet has a 148 seat configuration. Eight of the aircraft are equipped with CFM 56-3B2 engines and twenty have CFM 56-3C1 engines. Maximum take-off weight (MTOW) is between 61.9 and 63.3 tons (depending on configuration) and maximum range with full load is approximately 2,000 nautical miles. Four aircraft are retrofitted with performance enhancing winglets and have new Recaro seats which increase passenger legroom.
